Last night I was feeling overwhelmed. Like on the verge of a panic attack overwhelmed. I did not know what to do.

What ended up working for me was a grounding technique that I call 5 Things. I want to share this with you and hopefully it will help when you’re stuck in a spot where you feel panicked and overwhelmed.
5 Things You Can See
Look around. What are five things that you can see right now? What is around you? List those five things.
4 Things You Can Feel
What are four things that you can feel right now? Maybe your breathing or your heart beat. It could also be the floor beneath your feet or the cloths on your body.
3 Things You Can Hear
Can you hear anything right now? The traffic outside or the sound of your kids playing. Write down what you can hear at this moment.
2 Things You Can Smell
Can you smell dinner cooking right now? Or maybe you smell your perfume. If you can’t smell anything right now write down two scents that you enjoy.
1 Thing That is Great About You
The last thing you need to do is write down one thing that makes you feel great bout yourself. Maybe you have a new outfit that you look rocking in or maybe you feel that you are a good friend. Just choose one thing about yourself and write it down.
